Dutchess GOP Co. Leg.'s cut budgets for everything (except Co. Leg. salaries)-- why?...
Does this make sense to you?...
The current GOP Co. Leg. majority voted last December to completely eliminate all county funding for our county's Human Rights Commission, our county's Office of Consumer Affairs, our county Health Department's senior home care program, our county's Office for the Aging Senior Friendship Centers in Millerton, Pawling, and Fishkill, our county BOCES' GED program in our Jail (though endorsed by jail leadership), our county Youth Bureau's cost-saving Project Return program, and county funding for the Mediation Center of Dutchess County's preventive juvenile delinquency prevention for troubled teens...
While at same time this month (June)-- specifically today (during Committee Day) and Monday (at the full board meeting)-- they plan to not cut their own salaries by even a penny!...("shared sacrifice")...

Specifically, I propose (and will formally be making amendment today during BFP Committee mtg.) to cut salaries of rank-and-file county legislators like myself by 33% down to $10,000 a year (from current $15,540)-- and cut salaries of Co. Leg. Chair, Leaders, Whips by 33% as well...(why not?)...
[frankly, would also cut salaries for County Exec, Sheriff, County Clerk down to $99,000-- feedback?]
Feel free to speak up on this at the beginning of today's 5:30 pm meeting of our County Legislature's Budget, Finance, and Personnel Committee mtg.-- we'll be voting on this then(!)...

RE: ESTABLISHING THE SALARIES OF THE COUNTY
LEGISLATURE, COUNTY CLERK, SHERIFF, AND
THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE FOR THE TERM
COMMENCING THE YEAR 2012
Legislators ROLISON, COOPER, and FLESLAND offer the following and move its adoption:
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body establishes the salaries of the County
Legislature for the years 2012 and 2013, County Clerk for the years 2012 through 2015,
County Sheriff for the years 2012 through 2015 and the County Executive for the years
2012 through 2014 pursuant to Local Law No. 4 of 2002, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the salaries of the County Legislature for the term commencing
the year 2012 are hereby established as follows:
2012 and 2013
Chairman of the Legislature $32,961
Majority/Minority Leader $23,691
Majority/Minority Whip $19,570
Legislator $15,450
and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the salary of the County Clerk, Sheriff and County Executive
for the term commencing the year 2012 is hereby established as follows:
2012 through 2015
County Clerk $106,024
County Sheriff $125,664
County Executive $139,870
