[originally sent this below out to my list yesterday-- but-- just confirmed that Cablevision is coming out to cover our press conf. on this today-- so-- if you can-- please join me today (Thurs.) at 3:30 pm in front of our County Office Building at 22 Market St. in Poughkeepsie-- numbers count!...J]
Dutchess GOP Co. Leg.'s cut budgets for everything (except Co. Leg. salaries)-- why?...
Does this make sense to you?...
The current GOP Co. Leg. majority voted last December to completely eliminate all county funding for our county's Human Rights Commission, our county's Office of Consumer Affairs, our county Health Department's senior home care program, our county's Office for the Aging Senior Friendship Centers in Millerton, Pawling, and Fishkill, our county BOCES' GED program in our Jail (though endorsed by jail leadership), our county Youth Bureau's cost-saving Project Return program, and county funding for the Mediation Center of Dutchess County's preventive juvenile delinquency prevention for troubled teens...
While at same time this month (June)-- specifically today (during Committee Day) and Monday (at the full board meeting)-- they plan to not cut their own salaries by even a penny!...("shared sacrifice")...
[see: http://www.dutchessny.gov/CountyGov/Departments/Legislature/ResolutionsPDF/2011175.pdf --
the innocuously titled "2011175 Establishing the Salaries of the County Legislature, County Clerk, Sheriff, and the County Executive for the term commencing the Year 2012"-- it's all there, people]
...even though fact is there are only two mandatory meeting days each month for county legislators!...
Disgusting-- I intend to do something about it-- and there's something you can do about it too...
Join me for a press conference on all this today (Thurs.) 3:30 pm-- in front of our County Office Building at 22 Market St. in Poughkeepsie (before our monthly series of committee mtg.'s begin)!...
[note-- let us know asap if you can come out to this, k?...(numbers count for media attention, folks)]
Specifically, I propose (and will formally be making amendment today during BFP Committee mtg.) to cut salaries of rank-and-file county legislators like myself by 33% down to $10,000 a year (from current $15,540)-- and cut salaries of Co. Leg. Chair, Leaders, Whips by 33% as well...(why not?)...
[frankly, would also cut salaries for County Exec, Sheriff, County Clerk down to $99,000-- feedback?]
Feel free to speak up on this at the beginning of today's 5:30 pm meeting of our County Legislature's Budget, Finance, and Personnel Committee mtg.-- we'll be voting on this then(!)...
[again-- our meetings are on the sixth floor of our County Office Building at 22 Market St. Poughkeepsie; agenda is here-- http://www.co.dutchess.ny.us/CountyGov/Departments/Legislature/CLagenda.htm ]
Can't make it?...feel free to share your thoughts with us all; email firstname.lastname@example.org!
[pass it on]
[again-- this is one more reason y'all need to wake up if you live at Vassar or in Milan, Stanford, Pine Plains, North East, Amenia, Pleasant Valley, Millbrook, Washington, or Pawling (and parts of Poughkeepsie and Wappinger)-- because your GOP county legislator is now running for re-election UN-OPPOSED(!)...nothing personal to Rolison, Cooper, Flesland, Incoronato, Borchert, Kelsey, or Thomes-- but they are, frankly, atrocious on ALL issues-- not just this; please, folks-- please-- let me know asap if you can step up NOW to preserve what's left of our democracy-- time is running out!!!]
[let's not forget-- there's OPEN SEAT in Pleasant Valley (Horn stepping down)...no Dem running yet!]
